The web-site FINFO is provided by the Danish Library Centre for Integration. The Centre is responsible for all content on the national level (FINFO Denmark), for strategic development of the site and for running the network behind it.

Public libraries, ministries, municipalities, NGOs and other organizations have taken upon them the responsibility of providing content on relevant topics, on the national pages as well as on municipal pages. FINFO operates as a network of key stakeholders in the Danish society, who want to ease the way to integration of ethnic Danes and ethnic minorities by offering action-oriented, multilingual information about the Danish society.

Purpose.

Finfo is a multilingual portal about the Danish society. The purpose of the portal is to enhance the access of members of the immigrant communities to information about rights, duties and opportunities in the Danish society, as this is considered a prerequisite for integration and active participation in society at all levels.

Content

FINFO covers a wide range of topics that are structured on the basis of input from users and their needs for information about the Danish society. The topics are regularly being reviewed. At present the main topics are divided into: New in Denmark, Business, Health, Education, Organizations (Associations), Partnership and Family. Furthermore the site offers a range of other useful resources, such as, Global news and Toolbox.

The portal has two levels: national and municipal. The national level (with the signal colour green) provides information of general interest to the citizens of Denmark - for example, information about laws, rights, obligations and opportunities for ethnic minorities in Denmark. The municipal level (with blue colour) offers local level information of relevance to residents of a particular municipality, e. g. events, social life, addresses of social services, organizations, libraries, educational institutions etc.

Languages

Currently, information on Finfo translated into ten different languages. The aim is to translate as much content as possible into the different languages

History

The idea to create Finfo emerged in the mid-nineties among enthusiasts within the Danish library sector. They wanted to support the democratic process by helping to provide the foreign language communities in Denmark with the same access as Danish speakers to information about society. The portal was launched in late 1990 as the first ever to aggregate information at up to 13 languages. In fact, the portal was so innovative that the it proved to be ahead of or on the cutting edge of Microsoft Windows in the development of multilingual support
